Are QR codes permanent? ▼

Static QR codes (like those generated here) are permanent — the encoded data is fixed and cannot be changed after creation. If you need to update the destination (e.g. a URL), you would need to generate a new QR code and replace the old one. Dynamic QR codes (offered by paid services) use a redirect URL that can be updated without reprinting.

What is error correction? ▼

Error correction allows a QR code to be read even if part of it is damaged, dirty, or obscured. There are four levels: L (7%), M (15%), Q (25%), and H (30%). Higher levels add redundancy, making the code more resilient but also denser. Use H if you plan to overlay a logo on the QR code.

PNG vs SVG — which should I use? ▼

Use PNG for digital use — websites, emails, presentations, and social media. Use SVG for print — business cards, flyers, posters, and signage. SVG is a vector format that scales to any size without pixelation, making it ideal for large-format printing.

Is my data safe? ▼

Yes. All QR codes are generated entirely within your browser using JavaScript. No data — including URLs, WiFi passwords, contact details, or any other content you enter — is ever transmitted to our servers, stored in a database, or logged in any way. The generation process is completely local to your device.

What size should my QR code be? ▼

For digital use, 256×256px is sufficient. For print, the minimum recommended size is 2cm × 2cm (about 0.8 inches). As a general rule, the scanning distance should be about 10× the QR code's physical size — so a 3cm code can be scanned from about 30cm away. For large-format print, always download the SVG version.

Can I use colored QR codes? ▼

Yes, but with caution. The most important rule is contrast — the dark modules must be significantly darker than the light background. Avoid light foreground colors on light backgrounds, or dark backgrounds with dark modules. Inverted QR codes (light on dark) may not scan reliably on all devices. Always test before publishing.
